The Guild Hotel is a re-imagination of the iconic historic Armed Services YMCA building in the heart of Downtown San Diego. Opened in June 2019, the hotel is poised to provide an upscale and unique guest experience as the newest member of Marriott’s Tribute Portfolio.

Role: Sormeh Rienne was hired to design and develop all components of guest rooms & corridors, public spaces, front of house common areas, garden, restaurant as well as bar. This work included specification, shop drawings, full ID drawing set. Sormeh Rienne also took on the role as construction project manager and facilitator with Marriott Tribute Portfolio as well as the role as Owners Rep which included budget management, RFI’s, Change Orders etc.

The hospitality experience is rooted in nostalgia and familiarity, but revived and invigorated by unflinching touches of modernism. From the building’s historic facade adorned with modern art, to the dramatic reimagining of the gymnasium-turned-ballroom, The Guild begs visitors to uncover experiences that will last a lifetime.
